The Croucher Foundation Calligraphy Competition

Notes for applicants

1.        Welcome to the Croucher Foundation Calligraphy Competition.  Here you will find all information you need to submit your entry.  To be eligible, you must be a permanent Hong Kong resident enrolled on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course in fine arts or design at a degree-awarding institution of higher education in Hong Kong.

2.         To submit your entry you will need to complete an application form and prepare recent examples of your Chinese calligraphy and seal-making.  Three examples of calligraphy and two examples of seal-making are required.  These should be submitted on A3 or A4 paper and may be digitally reproduced.  Your name and HK ID number must be printed clearly on the back of each example.

3.         You will also need to submit an original design, prepared for the competition, for a Chinese seal using the characters裘槎.   A hand painted "draft" of the design is acceptable.  The design must be an original work and not digitally reproduced.  Without exception, the original piece of work must follow the following design guidelines:

a) The two characters裘槎 must be recognizable;

b) The characters should run vertically with uppermost and below;

c)  The proportion of the finished artwork should be within the ratio 1 (x) : 2.5 (y)

4.         Your application form must be signed by your head of department or a senior faculty member of your institution who will need to confirm that you are a full-time student of your institution.

5.         Your design will be judged by a selection panel before the final results are announced on 5th April 2010.  The overall winner will be invited to work together with an international design consultancy on the final design of the logo.

6.         The original design for a Chinese seal using the characters裘槎will be the property of the Croucher Foundation and may be used by the Croucher Foundation without restriction.

7.         A cash prize of HK$3,000 will be offered to the overall winner of the competition.  Cash prizes of HK$2,000 and HK$1,000 will be offered to the first and second runners-up respectively.  Finalists may be invited to meet representatives of the media and/or to provide statements for press releases.

8.         Once you have prepared your application, please submit it by mail or by hand to the Croucher Foundation at the address below before 5:00 pm on 26th February 2010.  Late entries will not be entertained.  Work submitted under the competition will not be returned.
